The Joy of Reconnecting — in Marriage and Life

This weekend was packed with beauty and joy.

On Saturday, we visited the stunning Banff and Lake Louise — and on Sunday, we drove from Calgary to Edmonton. But what really made these days special was meeting up with old friends — some we went to university with, and others we hadn’t seen in person for 20–25 years.

It reminded me of something important in marriage: reconnection doesn’t happen by accident.

Whether it’s an old friendship or your relationship with your spouse, distance and busyness can slowly create gaps. And if we don’t take intentional steps to bridge those gaps, the connection can fade.

Here’s what I’ve learned:

  • Make space for real conversations — the kind where you listen deeply, not just exchange logistics.
  • Share experiences together — like exploring a beautiful place or simply enjoying a quiet cup of coffee.
  • Remember shared history — talk about the moments that brought you together in the first place.

The friends we saw this weekend reminded me that relationships grow stronger when we invest time and attention. The same is true for marriage — even if you’ve been together for decades.

So today’s encouragement: schedule something this week to reconnect with your spouse — a walk, a date, or just 30 minutes with phones put away. The best moments often come when you make room for them.

Blessings,

Ade
