It’s also hard to love when you’re just trying to survive.
The truth is, most people carry deep wounds.
That’s why the Bible says:
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?” – Jeremiah 17:9 (ESV)
Or as the NLT puts it:
“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?”
Your spouse inherited a deceitful heart. So did you.
To build a marriage where love continues to grow, you must learn to heal your heart.
Healing starts with three key steps:
- Acknowledge that your heart needs healing—and trust that God can restore it.
- Allow God to cleanse your heart and renew your thoughts, removing negativity.
- Let go of the negative habits you developed while living with a wounded heart.
Only then can you truly understand the kind of love described in 1 Corinthians 13—the love that Jesus demonstrated in Romans 5:8.
Are you in the process of healing?
Blessings,
-Ade
