Has your spouse ever said this to you?
If yes. What does it mean?
You may be tempted to show her 10 different things you have done to prove that you care.
And does it work?
Does she say, “Oh I get it now. You care about us. I am sorry?”
Of course not.
What your spouse is saying is this!
“I am feeling disconnected from you.”
“Can you give me a moment of your time?”
“I just want to know that I matter to you.”
So your response should be something like this:
Oh no.. Is that how you feel? I am so sorry. Is there something I have done that makes you feel like this?
This response does not come naturally when you have been married for a long time, even though it came easily when you were courting.
The difference comes from your perspective:
When you are courting, you expect your spouse to want to be reassured of your love and when you have been married for a while, you expect them to know.
Everyone needs to be reassured from time to time.
